Nifty opens above 7500, Sensex firm; Lupin falls, Bharti gains -- 18 Mar 2016

The market started off last day of the week on a positive note, tracking global and oil rally. The 30-share BSE Sensex rose 79.40 points to 24756.77 and the Nifty advanced 21.65 points to 7534.20. 

                                       
Hindalco Industries, Bharti Airtel, TCS, ONGC, Adani Ports, Idea Cellular, Cairn India and Vedanta gained 1-2 percent while Lupin fell 2 percent on CLSA downgrade. Sun Pharma, HUL, Dr Reddy's Labs and BPCL were other losers.

The Indian rupee opened with a gain of 13 paise at 66.62 per dollar today against previous close of 66.75.

The 30-share index was trading at 24,723, up 45 points or 0.20 per cent. It touched a high of 24,778.98 and a low of 24,717.15 in morning trade. 

The Nifty50 was trading at 7,531 up 20 points or 0.25 per cent. It touched a high of 7,542.80 and a low of 7,524.65 in the first 30 minutes of trade. 

The S&P BSE Midcap Index was up 0.22 per cent and BSE S&P Smallcap Index was trading 0.30 per cent higher. 
Bharti Airtel (up 1.4 per cent), Tata Steel (up 1.1 per cent), GAIL India (up 0.7 per cent), Axis Bank (up 0.63 per cent), and TCS (up 0.5 per cent), were the major Sensex gainers. 

Cipla (down 1.5 per cent), Lupin (down 1.2 per cent), NTPC (down 0.5 per cent) and Sun Pharma (down 0.5 per cent) were the major Sensex losers.
